Hiya, Crafters! How is everyone today? I stepped in cat puke first thing this morning. That is a great representative of how my week has been. I've been so cranky, tired, and scatterbrained that I'm pretty sure that I've been abducted by aliens and any minute now one is going to burst out of my chest and do a chorus line. I wanted to make this card because it seemed simple. Thank goodness it is because I probably would have messed something up if it wasn't. Since I'm a bit of a Debbie Downer I chose bright and cheerful colors. You can find the link to the free download and printable .pdf file here.
I did have to make a couple of additions, but they are easy to remove if you don't need them.
Here's what you'll need to make this card:
Phew! Let's get started! Take your 4 x 12" base and score at 4" and 8". Fold the scorelines in to the center. Here's what you'll need to make this card:
- Cardstock cut to 4 x 12" for the base of your card
- Cardstock cut to 3 3/4 x 3 3/4" If you're using a white base you'll want 2 of the same size.
- Cardstock cut to 3 3/4 x 3 3/4" for the center of the card
- Cardstock cut to 3 1/2 x 3 1/2" For the center if you're using a white base.
- 2 7/8 x 2 7/8" for front panel
- 2 3/16 x 2 3/16" for front panel layer
- Ribbon
- Paper trimmer
- Scoring tool
- Bone folder
- Strong adhesive
- Stamping and die cutting tools
On either side you will be folding the flaps away from you. Take the upper left hand point and fold it backwards so it is folded diagonally. You will do the same on the right side, but you need to have the same diagonal line. To do this take the bottom right point and fold it backwards.
Burnish your score lines for crisp folding. Here's what it will look like folded and opened.
Take your 3 3/4 x 3 3/4" that you want to decorate your triangles and cut them diagonally. If you have used a white base you will have two pieces. Cut them from point to point.
Decide which pattern you'd like to show when closed and place them on the coordinating triangles. Or you can switch it up. It's your card.
Next adhere your center 3 3/4 x 3 3/4" cardstock to the middle of your card; if you chose white then you'll need to layer it with the 3 1/2 x 3 1/2" card. You're card will look something like this flat.
Bright and shiny, huh? OK, so we need to close this sucker and of course you need ribbon for that! I just cut out large amounts of ribbon. Then I closed the card and hung the ribbon over the top and bottom and made sure they were even. Next I glued it down onto the bottom triangle on the front of the card.
After that I decorated my panels. Made them as cute as possible. I used decorative scissors on the largest panel and took scraps from the paper I used earlier. Since you only want to tape it down to one triangle so it opens, I marked where I wanted the tape. The panels covered the marks once they were taped down.
I tied a knot and snipped off the extra bits of ribbon and that was it. Here's what it looks completed and flat.
All week Oscar has been keeping an eye on me in the corner of my (yellow) craft room behind the drafting desk. I use it for my cuttlebug, it's the perfect height.
So that's it. You've made a fun card that you can't find anywhere else. I hope you enjoyed this tutorial. Please let me know what you think in the comments below. I appreciate each and every one.
Don't forget to subscribe! I post Monday through Friday!
Thanks for stopping by, Crafters! See ya soon!
